When people struggle with anything, they tend to give up. And that’s a very natural thing to do, because I tend to do that a lot more than I’d like to admit. So many thoughts can run through your head when you are struggling with something.
You may feel as if you must have done something wrong to have anything bad happen to you. Since you’re Christian, that must mean sunshine and rainbows all of the time, correct? Nobody will mess with you, you won’t get sad, nobody you love will die, and it’s just the perfect life, right? Though this may be the way you are tempted to think when walking with Christ, things could not be further from the truth. Sometimes following Jesus is hard and there are struggles.
Job 13:15 reads “Though he slay me, yet will I trust him: but I will maintain my own ways before him.” This scripture derives straight from the mouth of Job, with God’s permission, the devil has had all of his cattle killed, all of his children killed, his wife and his friends turn on him, and he has a painful sickness that makes his skin become covered in painful boils and blisters. Job must have done something wrong to deserve this right? Maybe if you were looking from the outside you would believe, like Job's friends, that he must have done something wrong. But in reality, God was allowing the testing of Job’s loyalty and faith, as described in the first chapter of Job.
Matthew 5:45 says that God “…Sendeth rain on the just and the unjust.” Don’t just assume that nothing unfortunate will happen to you! Life happens to everyone. If not, how would our faith ever be tested, and how would we ever learn how to rely on God?
In many circumstances, people just give up in the middle of their situation, or lots of times, near the end. Some come so close to their deliverance, but think that they cannot hold on any longer. God never gives us more than we can bear, so why give up at 99 percent, when you’re so close to completion? If you don’t have enough faith to press through it and make it to the end with God, how will you be able to go it alone?
Just because something goes awry in your life, does not always mean that you’ve done something wrong. That also does not mean God is out to get you, like some big movie antagonist. It simply means that it’s just a test of your faith. It might seem tough at first, but all you have to do is press through it. Your today, does not always represent tomorrow. Calm down. Breath. God's got this!
