How Do I Know Which God to Talk To?

The funny thing about this question is that I used to ask myself the same thing—I didn’t know which God to talk to. With help, I learned how simple it was to approach the one true God.
When Social Media Becomes Your Prayer Guide
Today, many get lost in their spiritual walk because of false teachings circulating online. I was one of them, using TikTok as my main spiritual resource.
TikTok and other platforms can be helpful for spreading the Word—but only if what’s being shared aligns with truth. I didn’t take the time to study Scripture for myself at first.

Learning to Pray: Who Do I Even Talk To?
In the beginning, I didn’t know how to pray or who to pray to. I was confused by the separation of Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.
It never felt right to address God as three separate beings. That confusion taught me the importance of questioning what others teach and digging into the Word for myself.
Through the PRESS clubs and other spiritual communities, I began to understand prayer as a relationship—not just ritual. Like a friendship, it grows through real communication.

Why the Name of Jesus Matters in Prayer
How do I know Jesus is the one to talk to? Because Scripture and experience both point me to the authority and power in His name.
John 16:23 and other verses make it clear: when we pray in Jesus’ name, we are heard. It’s not just tradition—it’s biblical truth.
Father, Son, and Holy Ghost are titles, not names. When we say “Jesus,” we are calling on the one who holds all power and fullness.
Just as a person holds many roles but is accessed by one name, God has many titles—but the name that gives access is Jesus.
Avoiding the Trap of Powerless Prayers
Many are turning to false gods or spiritual trends, hoping for results. But without praying to the true God, those efforts are empty.
In 1 Kings 18, we see a powerful contrast between the silence of false gods and the response of the living God. The people of God have forgotten who they are. They have begun to serve false gods. Elijah is being hunted and many of the other prophets of God had been killed. However, as the Lord leads, Elijah comes out of hiding, presenting himself before the king and boldly challenges the people, "How long halt ye between two opinions? if the Lord be God, follow him: but if Baal, then follow him. And the people answered him not a word." (v.21) He proceeds to challenge the 450 prophets of Baal to a showdown in front of all the people, declaring that the God who answers by fire is the only true God. Of course, no matter how they danced, shouted or even cut themselves, the 450 prophets could not get Baal to respond. Elijah's God, however, answered by causing a wet altar to catch on fire. The point? True prayer reaches a God who answers.
I don’t need to harm myself or perform rituals. When I call on the name of Jesus, He hears—and He answers. Want to hear more about this story and how to pray in situations like this? Check out the PRESS Prayer Podcast episode, "How to Pray: God Help Them Remember Who You Are!"
